MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling also known as collagen induction therapy is a process in which multiple tiny needles puncture the skin to create a controlled, physical trauma to the skin’s surface. Although this sounds unsettling, dermatologist use this method to treat various skin conditions like acne scarring, stretch marks, and other skin irregularities. Microneedling treatment activates the deepest layer of skin, the derma, to rebuild and produce more collagen.

As the skin ages, we notice the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and a loss of skin firmness.  These symptoms are due in part to the decline in collagen production caused by aging. Collagen boost skin growth, which fills in and smooths out fine lines and wrinkles. This essential protein keeps the skin looking firm and youthful.

During the microneedling procedure, your medical provider or esthetician will puncture holes in your skin with a microneedling device.  A topical anesthetic is used to reduce discomfort and most find this process minimally painful.  The wounds are small and not very noticeable after the procedure. Overall the treatment takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour depending how long your anesthetic take effect or ready for the microneedling procedure.

At home microneedling treatment using derma roller also works and will give you noticeable results but since the needles don’t penetrate the skin deep enough. Make sure to do your research and make sure your instruments are clean and easy to use. Microneedling treatment done in a professional setting using a medical grade equipment, the use of this microneedling equipment is proven to be more noticeable and lasting results.  Although its more expensive and more invasive, the results are visible and longer term. Make sure to do your research and make sure to speak to a professional to determine the best microneedling treatment for you.

The medical community considers microneedling to be safe and efficient, but there are still some risk.  Most post treatment symptoms the people experience is an irritation.  After the microneedling procedure, the skin might encounter hyperpigmentation or even the appearance of blood.  Bleeding is an uncommon reaction but is possible after a deep microneedling treatment. Other side effects may include dryness, bruising, discomfort, redness, swelling, burning or peeling of the skin.  Most symptoms subside withing a few days.  If you have acne, infection or unstable skin in general, consult with your dermatologist before considering microneedling.

Microneedling works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen.  The idea  is that pinpricks from the procedure cause slight injury to the skin and that the skin responds by making new collagen rich tissue.  The new skin tissue is in turn more even in tone and texture.

Overall, the Microneedling procedure is a promising way to reduce the effects of aging. This treatment is effective in boosting collagen levels in the skim for a smooth and radiant look.
